How to Carve a Halloween Pumpkin Whether you are working from a pattern or free-handing it, having the right tools for carving pumpkins makes all the difference. Photo & Article Source: DIY Network Materials and Tools: Pumpkin(s) Halloween Patterns HGTV's  Beginner Pumpkin Carving Templates HGTV's Advanced Pumpkin Carving Templates Carbon Paper Tape Pencil Carving kit Serrated knives Wood carving tools or pottery tools Metal Halloween shaped cookie cutters Light-duty hammer Pliers Steps: 1. Place your template/pattern over the carbon paper and tape onto the pumpkin. Trace around and the image will be left on the pumpkin for easy lines to follow when carving. 2. The tools that work best for carving are the small carving tools that come in those inexpensive Halloween pumpkin carving kits. They're manageable for all ages. Other tools that work well are serrated steak knives and grapefruit knives. For additional detail, carving and pottery tools work great. TIP: the best trick of all is to use metal Halloween shaped cookie cutters. 3. Place your metal cookie cutter onto the pumpkin. (Some plastic cookie cutters will also work, but they're generally not as flexible). NOTE: Don't cut the lid off or clean out yet! Make all your impressions first. 4. Use a light duty hammer to get the cookie cutter into the pumpkin. Work the cutter side to side while hammering. Hammer the cookie cutter in until it's almost all the way in. Pull the cookie cutter out with a pair of pliers. Continue to hammer all of the shapes where you want them in the pumpkin. 6. Once you have your designs traced or stamped in place, you're ready to cut off the top of the pumpkin and clean it out. 7. Once cleaned, finish cutting out the shapes with small serrated blades and pop them out from the inside. Have a safe & happy Halloween! We want to hear from you! American Cabinet & Flooring, Inc. - September 2012 - Newsletter      Featured in House Beautiful's 2012 - Kitchen of the Year - Kraftmaid Cabinetry teamed up with Chicago based kitchen designer Mick de Guilio for House Beautiful's 2012 Kitchen of the Year. The 1,000-square-foot kitchen was on display through Friday - July 20, 2012 - at Rockefeller Center in New York City. It represents transitional style and features a Butler's pantry sporting dove white painted Sedona cabinet doors with glass doors and matching interiors. The asymmetrical kitchen includes cabinets of varying heights that incorporate Slate stain contrasted by polished nickel hardware. All of the doors and drawers feature KraftMaid's soft-close Whisper Touch System.  "The Kitchen of the Year showcases the best of kitchen design and inspires homeowners with ideas they can bring into their own home," said Kate Thompson, lead KraftMaid designer on the project. The design did leave many dreaming about bringing the Kitchen of the Year to life in their homes. Well, dream no longer! Thanks to The Suffolk ReStore and KraftMaid one homeowner will have the opportunity to make the Kitchen of the Year cabinetry their own. As Kitchen of the Year came to an end, KraftMaid donated the cabinetry to the ReStore of Suffolk County, NY; which will sell the cabinets and donate the proceeds. The sale of the cabinetry will raise over $24,000 for Habitat for Humanity, giving one lucky individual the kitchen of their dreams and providing support to families in need. The Ninth Annual London Design Festival will be held this September 17th - 25th. Events will take place throughout the city, with the Victoria & Albert museum of Decorative Arts and Design (The V & A) being the central hub of the festival, a natural home for an event which celebrates the best of design. The festival was set up to promote London as the design capital of the world and to celebrate the wealth of creative talent based there. London is often looked at from around the world for fashion but interior design and architecture are also heavily influenced by the "London look." One of the design trends that will most likely be displayed at this year's design festival is "hyper-personalization". The idea is to bring the unexpected in and to create a space where the room is not only a work of art, but created by you. By customizing each room to fit the specific needs of the person or persons that will occupy it, we are creating an uplifting attitude towards the home, giving each room its own personality and ambiance. Many of the current design trends today compliment this design idea. Some of the hottest London design trends to help you achieve "hyper-personalization" include: Using Darker Tones - in particular black to create focal points. Off set by using lighter colors, all the way down the spectrum to white, producing balance in the space. This creates opportunities to have fun with colorful decor without overstimulating the mind and creating uneasiness in the space.  Less is More! - to embrace as much space as possible people are trading their over-sized furniture pieces with small and more functional ones. Paired with thoughtful ways to create storage, a minimal approach gives more opportunity to utilize the space in a maximum way. Bold Colors & Bright Patterns - create focal points and personality in a room. Not only do bright colors make a room cheery, but it can be an easy and inexpensive way to give a room a make-over. By adding color and patterns in things like rugs, pillows, lamp shades, and art; you can achieve this design trend without remodeling your entire space. All White Furniture - though all white may sound boring, it is one of the most popular design trends today. A white piece of furniture can serve as a focal point to a colorful room or be a backdrop to something ornament that you wish to draw attention to. Again, you are causing contrast between light and bold colors, creating balance in the space. Design & Planning 2012 Color Trends and A Few Fun Color Facts Every year, Sherwin-Williams releases its forecast of color trends and what paint colors they think will make their way into homes this year. Here's a quick description of each color palette in four earthy color groups (reds, blues, greens and neutrals), as well as a few fun color facts.  REDS Sherwin-Williams says reds will be seen in many shades, specifically flowery tones such as fuchsias, red-oranges, violets and delicate pinks.  Fun Fact: In the world of feng shui, a red front door invites prosperity into the residents. BLUES Celebrating a pair of treasured blues - denim and water - blue is a soothing palette that adds a sense of calmness and serenity to rooms. Fun Fact: The color blue is the least common color in the foods we eat.  GREENS Greens from years past have incorporated a yellow tint. This year focuses on a more eclectic palette, according to Sherwin-Williams, including lush, moody, complex greens that showcase deeper aspects of the sea and forest.  Fun Fact: Night goggles use the color green because the human eye is most sensitive to green and able to discern the most shades of it. NEUTRALS Subtle hues found in raw materials act as inspiration for 2012 colors. Imagine a field of grain, a pile of pebbles, weathered wood and earthen clay. The neutral palette is a warm, understated palette made up of soft yellows and browns that won't overpower a room.
